On Tuesday night, hundreds of law enforcement officers and community members gathered along Avenue C outside of the Johnson City Justice Building for a candlelight vigil to honor fallen police officer David Smith. The 43-year-old Johnson City Police Officer suffered fatal gunshot wounds Monday morning while responding to a disturbance on Harrison Street. The ceremony on Tuesday night lasted just under 20 minutes and closed with prayers led by the Johnson City Police Chaplain and songs played by a bagpipe ensemble. The vigil was organized by local law enforcement personnel. Smith is survived by his wife and son.
