The next step in the mourning process following Officer David Smith’s tragic death is calling hours and a funeral service scheduled in the coming days. On Thursday, calling hours will be held from 4 to 7 PM at the Chase Funeral Home on Chenango Street in Port Dickinson. A funeral service on Friday is expected to draw hundreds of people. That service will be taking place in Sarah Jane Johnson Church on Main Street in Johnson City. The service will begin at 11 o’clock Friday morning, and street closures are expected in the area from 9 to 2 o’clock that day. A private burial service for law enforcement and Smith’s family will follow.
