A Harpursville man has been sent to jail after a physical confrontation with his wife led to him assaulting another woman. 43-year-old Darren Steele was involved in an altercation with his wife on Broad Street in Johnson City, when an uninvolved female attempted to intervene and try to get Steele away from his wife. Steele then grabbed the woman and threw her to the ground. He fled the scene prior to the arrival of police. A short time later, it was reported that Steele had returned to the area. Officers pursued Steele into a vacant apartment, and he was taken into custody after he tried to escape through a window in the apartment. Steele is being charged with felony burglary, along with multiple misdemeanor charges including assault, obstructing governmental administration, and resisting arrest. He was arraigned in Johnson City Village court and sent to the Broome County Jail.
