On Tuesday, the Johnson City Police Department arrested 19-year-old Malik Melendez, of Johnson City. Police responded to a report of a disturbance on St. Charles Street, involving 2 men both armed with a handgun. Melendez matched the description of one of the men provided by the 911 caller. Melendez was stopped, and a loaded .25 caliber handgun was seized from him. Melendez was also found to be in possession of a quantity of marihuana and crack cocaine. Melendez has been charged with felony Criminal Possession of a Weapon and misdemeanor charges. Melendez was arraigned and remanded to the Broome County Jail without bail. The second man was not located. Melendez’s brother, Xavier Melendez, was charged with attempted murder stemming from a shots-fired incident on Willow Street in September.
