As budget season draws near, local villages are working hard to try to close their budget gaps. The Village of Johnson City held a meeting on Monday to discuss the budget deadline, as well as ways to close a budget gap of over $9 million. Village Board Members discussed possibilities involving their police and fire departments, but also noted that money must be taken from areas that would not compromise the safety of the community. Mayor Greg Deemie says that the village is currently under 4 percent for the tax levy, and are close to their 2 percent tax levy cap. A public hearing for the budget is scheduled for next Tuesday, April 9th, at 7 PM.
