Johnson City Police arrested a man they say called police on his neighbor, but actually committed the crime himself. Robert Fletcher of Johnson City was arrested after he reported that someone had broken into a parking meter in front of his home, at 212 Grand Avenue. He told police his neighbor had done it and that he found the top to the parking meter on his neighbor’s front porch. Officers said they found the meter head on the neighbor’s porch, but determined that Fletcher himself had broken into the meter in an attempt to get the coins out of it. He was arrested and charged with tampering with physical evidence, criminal mischief in the fourth degree, attempted petty larceny, falsely reporting an incident, filing a false written statement, and disorderly conduct. Fletcher was taken to the Broome County Jail.
