Suspect Identified in Interstate 81 Car Chase

The State Police have identified the suspect in the Interstate 81 chase on Monday. 79-year-old Freddie Maliwacki Sr of Conklin, was travelling 93 miles per hour, when a state trooper attempted to pull him over. The suspect refused to stop and continued on several rural roads in Kirkwood and Windsor. The pursuit ended when a Broome County Sherriff’s deputy used a spike strip on State Route 79 in the Town of Windsor. Maliwacki continued driving with punctured tires into the Golden Oak Golf Course where he eventually struck an earth embankment and became disabled. Maliwacki was arrested for the felony Reckless Endangerment and Criminal Mischief. Several troopers and deputies were involved in the pursuit and arrest. Maliwacki was arraigned in the town of Windsor court and was remanded to the Broome County jail with no bail set. His next court date is pending.
