The New York Gaming Facility Location Board held a public meeting yesterday to reveal its picks for casino licenses throughout upstate New York. And the winner in the Southern Tier/Finger Lakes region was Lago, just north of Cayuga Lake. Lago was up against Traditions Resort & Casino, and Tioga Downs. There were 16 total bidders across New York, including four in the Capital region and nine in the Catskills and Hudson Valley region. Montreign Resort Casino was selected for the Catskills/Hudson Valley Region, and Rivers Casino and Resort at Mohawk Harbor was chosen in the Capital Region. The board was originally tasked with selecting up to four proposals across the state. It announced early on in yesterday’s final meeting that three projects would be approved. According to the board, Lago is expected to generate $64 million for statewide school aid and/or property tax relief, $8 million for local governments in the Eastern Southern Tier/Finger Lakes Region, plus an additional $8 million to be split between Seneca County and the town of Tyre. Lago’s facility will include a 94,000 square foot casino with 2,000 slot machines and 85 gaming tables, 207 hotel rooms, multiple restaurants and lounges.
