The second brush fire in two days erupted yesterday afternoon in the town of Maine. Numerous crews from East Maine, Maine, Choconut Center, Endwell, Union Center, Chenango and Prospect Terrace fire departments responded just after 4 p.m. to the scene. The fire was located in the woods, near the area of Hayes Road and Upper Stella Ireland Road. It contained heavy smoke. According to crews on the scene, the fire is estimated to have spread about two acres. Fortunately, no homes were in danger at any time. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
