Governor Andrew Cuomo has put forth a plan for the state to consolidate several psychiatric centers and create regional locations, a plan which would close the Binghamton Psychiatric Center and the Broome Developmental Center, among others. The plan has been met with strong opposition from employees, patients’ families, and politicians. State Senator Tom Libous spoke with News Radio WEBO Thursday morning about the possible closures.
Senator Libous is also concerned about the burden that the closings would have on the families of children that need psychiatric care.
Senator Libous spoke about his plan to halt the closings while local leaders look to figure out a better alternative.
The plan would have closings postponed until at least April of 2015.
