New York State announced Thursday that the Southern Tier will receive $500 million over the next three years for economic development. Governor Andrew Cuomo announced today that the Southern Tier, the Finger Lakes, and Central New York regions will evenly split a total award of $1.5 billion in economic development funding – the largest investment in Upstate New York since the Erie Canal. The Southern Tier proposal contains many different projects, including: identifying and fixing flood hazards, improvements around the Huron Campus in Endicott, a health sciences complex in Johnson City, and setting up a job development fund.
