Nearly 2,000 people lost power during yesterday’s brief thunderstorms. Strong winds brought several trees down which caused the loss in power, as well as blocked roadways. In Johnson City, a fallen tree even caught on fire after landing on a power line.
In addition, about an hour south of Binghamton, a teenager was struck by lightning in Laceyville, Pennsylvania during the same string of storms.
Despite the negative effects, the storm brought much needed rain to the region. An unusually dry summer has affected crop growth and tourism.
