The Town of Union started their Farmers Market for the second consecutive year. On Tuesday, Several vendors gathered in Highland Park and sold their products, and organizers are expecting more to join as the market runs through September. The number of farmers markets has been growing in New York State, more than doubling in the past thirteen years. In 2000, there were reportedly 235 farmers markets in New York, according to the State Department of Agriculture and Markets. This year, that number is closer to 600. In Tioga County, Candor has also started its first farmers market, which begins today and runs each Thursday through the fall.
