The Union-Endicott School District is dealing with the sudden loss of one of their high school teachers. Rick Friend, a popular social studies teacher, passed away unexpectedly over the weekend at the age of 56. The native of England taught in the district for 26 years and also ran the district’s Mock Trial club. The district said in a statement that they were saddened by his passing and are making counselors available for students and staff. Friend is survived by his wife and children. Calling hours will be held Thursday in Newark Valley.
