President Barack Obama concluded his town hall discussion at Binghamton University Friday afternoon. As planned, the talking points at Friday’s event focused on education’s role in the economic recovery of the country. The President spoke about his three-part plan to make college more affordable, and also discussed putting more accountability on the institutions themselves as opposed to placing a financial burden on students and graduates. Some members of the BU community, including students, faculty, and staff, were able to secure tickets to the event, and some lucky attendees were able to ask the President questions face-to-face. Questions centered around various education-related topics, including questions about education for nurses and other health-care professionals, questions regarding students in the gay and lesbian community, along with questions from students who are studying abroad at BU. Despite a large amount of people outside the building to protest hydrofracking, there were no questions asked on the subject. Obama has voiced his support in the past for natural gas drilling.
