Vestal Home Fire Ruled Accidental

Broome County Fire Investigators have ruled that the fire that destroyed a home in Vestal on Tuesday afternoon was, in fact, accidental. The call for the fire originally came in around 2:30 Tuesday. Fire officials are now saying that the fire initially started behind a microwave in the kitchen of 4529 Salem Drive. An investigation revealed that the fire worked its way through the wall of the outside of the home on the aluminum siding. The house has been deemed a total loss after the flames took over 4 hours to extinguish on Tuesday. Three people were home at the time of the fire, but all three were able to safely escape and avoid injury.
