A Vestal home was severely damaged after it burned for over four hours Tuesday afternoon. Crews were called to the fire at 4925 Salem Drive around 2:30 on Tuesday. At this time, officials believe the fire started in the home’s kitchen and worked its way up the walls into the second floor and attic. The entire second floor was reportedly destroyed by the flames. While firefighters were in the home, the ceiling on the second floor collapsed as they looked to make their way up the stairs. No firefighters were injured, but the collapse forced them to fight the fire from outside the home. Three people were home when the fire first started, and all three were able to safely escape. The American Red Cross is expected to assist the family. Fire crews from Endicott, Endwell, West Corners, and the Town of Binghamton assisted at the scene.
