Vestal Police Encouraging Crime Prevention Measures

Larceny rates over the past two holiday months have been down according to Vestal Police, but they still encourage everyone to be diligent in their attempts at crime prevention in the area.
Lt. Edward Golluscio said that when the holidays are over, larceny rates can increase as people leave gifts in sight, and he offered some tips to help prevent theft around this time of the year.
Aside from making sure all windows and doors are locked, Golluscio said that shredding all gift boxes, particularly expensive ones, is a good way to not draw attention to a home or the items inside. He also suggested that leaving a few lights on in your house, or the radio, is a good way to give the appearance of someone being home even if they are not.
Golluscio said this practice is something to consider every time you leave the house, even if just for a short period of time.
