A Whitney Point man is facing charges related to falsely reporting child abuse. 43-year-old Harry Clauson is facing charges of endangering the welfare of a child, along with 48 separate counts of making false child abuse reports to the New York State Child Abuse Hotline. The false reports to the hotline are said to have occurred from September of last year through February of this year, coming in at odd hours of the day and night. Each report required immediate response and investigations by Broome County Child Protective Services, along with the New York State Police and Broome County Sheriff’s Department, exposing the children to sensitive interviews and examinations. While most of the reports were made anonymously, a number were made using the names of individuals without their knowledge. Clauson was arrested on an arrest warrant issued by the Town of Barker Court. He was sent to the Broome County Jail.
