The Whitney Point Central School District has earned an award for its new emphasis on nutrition in its schools. The Adams Primary School was given the Bronze Award from the United State Department of Agriculture as a part of its Healthier US School Challenge. The award is in recognition of the district’s commitment to promoting proper nutrition and physical fitness for children. The challenge is part of First Lady Michelle Obama’s Let’s Move initiative to end childhood obesity within a generation. The schools that participate in the challenge voluntarily adopt the USDA’s standards for the food which is served at the schools, and they agree to provide nutrition education, along with more opportunities for physical activities. Whitney Point was awarded a plaque, a banner, and a $500 donation to their food services program.
