A wing of Willow Point Nursing Home lost its H-VAC unit after a water main break late Tuesday, leaving close to 100 residents with no air conditioning. Broome County officials said Thursday a water main broke at approximately 11 p.m. Tuesday in the basement of the south building at Willow Point, knocking out the HVAC unit. That unit serves nearly 95 residents, most of them elderly. Seven portable air conditioners and multiple fans have been placed throughout the building. The county and Willow Point officials say they are making sure residents are drinking plenty of fluids. Residents have been told they can move to another building if they get too hot. The air conditioning units will be fixed by the end of the weekend, when the heat wave is supposed to end.
