The Central Baptist Christian Academy in Binghamton will close its doors for good at the end of this school year.

At a quarterly business meeting earlier this month, the Central Baptist Church decided to close the school effective the day after graduation.

According to officials, a decrease in student enrollment was the key factor in this decision.

Originally the church was going to only shut down its high school, but enrollment numbers in kindergarten through eighth grades were also too low to continue operations.

Central Baptist Christian Academy began with kindergarten through third grades in 1971 and expanded to K through 12 in 1974.
