NY State Police: Suspect was staying at Knights Inn at time of fatal fire; six victims identified

The New York State Police confirmed that the suspect in the fatal fire on Monday morning in Endwell was staying at the Knights Inn at the time of the incident.

According to police, 24-year-old Tyler Russell has been charged with six counts of manslaughter in the second degree, a Class C felony, and one count of arson in the fourth degree, a Class E felony.

Russell was remanded to the Broome County Jail after he was arrested at a local hospital where he was receiving treatment for injuries he reportedly sustained during a fall in the motel parking lot.

Fire investigators determined that the origin of the fire involved human factors.

Law enforcement officials identified the victims as 58-year-old Michelle D. Woolfolk and a family of five, 29-year-old Joshua Molyneaux, 27-year-old Dominique Cruz-Champion and their children, 3-year-old Ella Cruz-Molyneaux, 2-year-old Romyn Cruz-Molyneaux and 10-month-old Zachariah Cruz Molyneaux.

According to officials, all other people staying at Knights Inn have been located and accounted for.

The suspect was staying on the first floor of the Knights Inn. No other suspects are being sought in connection with this case.

Broome County Executive Jason Garnar said the county is working with organizations to help those displaced by the fire.

An emergency relief fund has been established by the United Way of Broome County to help those affected by the incident.
