The Tioga County Legislature formally spoke out against proposed state legislation that would allow solar farm projects on state forest land.
According to the Morning Times, the legislature unanimously passed a resolution that called on Gov. Kathy Hochul, the state association of counties and state legislators to oppose the bill.
Tioga County has over 10,000 acres of state land, including popular sites like Oakley Corners State Forest.
The proposed state legislation is part of the 2019 Climate Leadership and Community Protection Act, which according to legislators, would bypass local government zoning, approvals and oversight.
