Tioga County Legislative Chairwomen Martha Sauerbrey regretfully reports the loss of another life due to COVID-19. “Our thoughts and prayers are with the family and friends during this difficult time,” said Sauerbrey.
Tioga County has seen a significant spike in COVID-19 numbers In the last week to ten days and that is because of community spread, not one specific area but in bars, salons, offices, everywhere, said Sauerbrey.
Confirmed cases in Tioga County increased by six on Wednesday, up by 39 cases since September 22. Also yesterday, active cases increased by five persons to 40. On September 22, only three active cases were monitored by the health department. An additional 39 people were put into mandatory quarentine on Wednesday.

Sauerbrey said this is a problem involving the entire community and can be contained by the entire community. During this challenging time, we need to stay vigilant to protect ourselves and our families. Tioga County Legislative Chairwoman Martha Sauerbrey reported the following Tioga County COVID-19 Statistics (Tuesday’s total):
- 270 (264) Confirmed Cases – Total confirmed cases, to date.
- 246 (219) Individuals in Mandatory Quarantine – These are individuals who have had close contact (6 ft.) with someone who has tested positive, but is not displaying symptoms for COVID-19; or individuals that have traveled to China, Iran, Japan, South Korea, or Italy and is displaying symptoms of COVID-19; or individuals who traveled outside of New York State to one of the states identified by the Governor with a mandatory 14-day quarantine period upon return.
- 204 Recovered – Total number of individuals who had a confirmed case of COVID-19 and are now symptom and fever-free that meet the criteria to be released from Isolation.
- 40 (35) Active Cases
- 26 (25) Deaths
