A 9-year-old child was seriously injured last week after he stole his father’s vehicle and crashed into a house in Waverly. Waverly Police were called to Cayuta Avenue just after 11 o’clock on the night of July 1st for a report of a drunk driver. Police arrived on the scene to find a pick-up truck crashed into a house. According to police, the boy had been driving at a high speed down the road when he lost control of the truck, hitting a tree, and then the house. The boy stole the keys to his dad’s truck while his parents were sleeping. Following the crash, the boy was trapped inside the truck, and emergency crews had to work to extract him from the vehicle before taking him to Robert Packer Hospital in Sayre for serious injuries to both of his legs. There was extensive damage to the house and the truck was totaled. There is no report on whether charges have been filed at this time.
