The Apalachin Fire District’s financial policies and procedures received a passing grade following an audit by the state Comptroller’s Office. The office reported the district’s board of fire commissioners have adopted and adequately used the state’s required purchasing, investment, and code of ethics policies. The Apalachin Fire District’s general fund budget was about $744,000 for the 2012 fiscal year. Auditors from the state reviewed 36 fire district claims to determine whether financial transactions were valid and properly recorded. They also reviewed over $840,000 worth of receipts last year to ensure all cash receipts were deposited in the district’s bank account.
