On February 16th a fire destroyed the town of Candor’s barn and a handful of highway department trucks. Last night the town board met with the highway supervisor, code enforcement officer, architect, and insurance reps to get the ball rolling. The fire started in one of the trucks and spread through the storage bay, destroying half of the barn. It also completely destroyed four 10-wheelers, a one-ton truck, and a loader, and also damaged another 10-wheeler which was able to be repaired. The town has already begun replacing some of the trucks, and the insurance carrier will most likely cover a large portion of those replacement costs. The insurance will also cover rebuilding the half of the barn that was destroyed, while also updating it to code. The goal is to make those repairs by next winter. In the meantime, the town is very thankful for the help and support from the surrounding communities this winter.
