After close to two years of detours through the Village of Candor, the Main Street bridge is back open again. The Candor community held a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Wednesday to acknowledge the completion of the construction project. The bridge has been closed since December of 2011 after receiving a poor bridge inspection report. Originally scheduled to be completed by the fall of 2014, the project was fast-tracked and set to be finished by this September, and construction finished a month ahead of schedule. One of the main issues with the bridge being closed was a lack of thru traffic in the village, and business owners say sales suffered. The bridge is also open just in time for the school year, which will be easier for bus transportation, as the Candor bus garage will now be able to drive directly to the school, instead of circling the entire Village to reach the school. The project cost $2.75 million, eighty percent of which was paid for by the federal government, with New York state picking up the remaining twenty percent.
