The 2017 Lyme Disease season is in full swing in Tioga County, and the health department says they have already seen double the amount of cases through the first three months of this year as a result of tick bites. In response, the health department is handing out FREE Tick Removal Kits at the Health and Human Services Building on Route 38 in Owego. Each kit includes: tweezers to remove a tick, instruction cards that explain how to remove a tick and how to identify the tick, alcohol swabs to clean the bite area, and educational materials on Lyme disease. The health department has information about ticks and Lyme Disease available on the county website at tiogacountyny.com. A total of 181 Lyme Disease cases were confirmed in Tioga County last year.
