The Cold Water Challenge is a challenge where people jump into cold water, post a video of their jump on Facebook, then nominate a friend or friends to do the same within 24 hours, and if they don’t jump into water within 24 hours, they have to donate to a charity of the sender’s choice. Waverly officials are warning people against jumping into the Waverly Reservoir, since the reservoir has a pump used to pump water to the Waverly Water Department’s filter plant. Officials say that pump system uses some suctioning, which increases the possibility of drowning for anyone jumping into the reservoir. At this point, a handful of people have been spotted jumping into the water in Waverly.
