UPDATE: Trustees Respond to Wastewater Debate

Even though the village of Owego board voted to discontinue negotiations Monday night with Inflection Energy for the sale of effluent water from the village’s waste water treatment plant, the issue is still the talk of the town.  In response to questions from constituents, the Owego Citizens party has issued a “position paper” explaining in further detail the reasons why the village board voted down the proposal.
In the response, Patrick Gavin says that the Citizens Party representatives have always supported selling the grey water to a company or companies as a revenue generating source for the village.  He says an agreement with Inflection could not be reached over the length of contract, which would lock the village into selling that water to one company for ten years.  Gavin also cited that Inflection was unwilling to agree to purchase at least a certain amount of water from the plant.  Under the proposed deal, the village could have raised an estimated $3.6 million a year on the high side, but the village could have also stood to gain $0 the way the contract was written.  Gavin says the Citizens Party Trustees feel it is necessary to break off negotiations at this time and regroup with the new incoming board members.
