Fire crews responded to a fire on Gaskill Road in Campville Monday afternoon.
The call came in at 2 pm and thick black smoke was visible for several miles.
When firefighters arrived on the scene, the home–in the 800 block of Gaskill Road, directly across the road from Wagner’s Lumber–was completely engulfed.
Fire officials do not believe anyone was home at the time the blaze broke out. The fire was brought under control in under an hour by the Campville Fire Department who was assisted by crews from Apalachin, Owego, Southside, Newark Valley and West Corners.
Water was shuttled from Lockheed Martin by tanker trucks to fight the fire. The house was said to be a total loss, although no one was injured.
