Madeline Kuhlman of Tioga County was named the New York State Dairy Princess Tuesday night at the Holiday Inn in Salina. A total of 25 county dairy princesses from throughout the state competed in the two-day pageant. They were judged in a variety of categories, including performance on a written communications test, product knowledge test, prepared speech, impromptu questions and informal interaction with others. Kuhlman will represent the dairy industry and dairy farmers at events throughout the state now through February 2012, including the New York State Fair and various promotions and in interviews. All contestants have promoted milk and dairy products as county dairy princesses at the local level since spring of 2010. Kuhlman is presently a sophomore at Tioga Central High School. Her family operates a 400-acre dairy farm on Waites Road in Owego. Madeline is a member of Library Club, ADSIP, Student Council, Varsity Golf, Animal Aholics 4-H Club, Environthon and Science Olympiad. Her future plans are to attend college and pursue a degree in the field of medicine.
