After Lockheed Martin was officially awarded the contract to build the next fleet of presidential helicopters, another contract will likely be awarded to the company as early as next month. The U.S. Air Force is expected to award its Combat Rescue Helicopter contract to the team of Lockheed and Sikorsky Aircraft by the end of June. The multibillion-dollar contract will call for 112 combat search-and-rescue helicopters being built. The Air Force made the announcement back in March that it would be realigning $430 million from other areas of its budget, through 2019, so it could award the contract to Sikorsky, who will provide the helicopters. Lockheed’s Owego workers will then be assigned with handling the new helicopters’ modernized mission systems.
