After a push by US Senators Charles Schumer and Kirsten Gillibrand, the Owego-Apalachin School District will finally be receiving their second and final check from FEMA . This check comes from FEMA to help relocate and rebuild some of the school district’s facilities after damages caused by Tropical Storm Lee. The school district received a check from FEMA for $5 Million in March to get the recovery project underway. This second check from FEMA was written in the amount of $11.4 Million. In total, FEMA is covering 75% of the total cost of the Owego Apalachin’s rebuilding efforts.
