The Owego Little League will open its 62nd season on Saturday. The festivities will begin with a parade, opening ceremonies and the playing of 14 games. The annual parade steps off at 8:30 a.m. from the Owego Police Station on Temple Street and travels North Avenue to George Street to Hyde Park. Opening Day ceremonies at 9 am include the American and POW/MIA flag raising and the introduction of the 25 teams and their managers and coaches. There will be a moment of silence to remember to memory of Fallen Owego Volunteer Fireman and former Little League player Matthew Porcari, those who died in the Boston Marathon and former eight times Owego Little League President and District Six Administrator George Cheresnowsky. President Ken Winters will introduce his officers, directors and umpires and thank volunteers for their extraordinary service and the community for its continuing support. Winters will also present the Dick Horton Memorial and Special Appreciation awards.
