Proposed Tioga-Owego Fire District Voted Down

The decision on whether to create a fire district in the Village of Owego will not be moving forward. Village of Owego Trustees voted down the motion to send the proposal to a public referendum vote in March. The creation of a fire district would have taken fiscal responsibility for fire services away from the Village of Owego Board, and given it to a fire commission. A fire tax would have also been implemented for those within the district. A motion was made to hold another public hearing on the matter, however, that too was voted down.
