Tioga County voters approved school district budgets in all but one school district yesterday. Voters in Waverly rejected the district’s budget proposal by 47 votes, 438 to 381. The $31 million spending plan was asking for a property tax levy increase of five percent. Residents in Waverly did however choose two board of education members during yesterday’s voting. Donald Mattison and Cory Robinson were both elected to the Waverly Board of Education. The district will now have to decide whether to try and send the same budget proposal to taxpayers or come up with an alternate plan.
All other Tioga County school districts passed their budget proposals by comfortable margins, including in Owego-Apalachin, where the proposal passed by over 300 votes. Linda Gretz and Gene Cvik were elected to the Owego-Apalachin Board of Education seats.
