Lockheed Martin could be seeing 100 new jobs coming to its Owego location after two recent multibillion-dollar contracts . Back on May 7th, the U.S. Navy announced that the team of Lockheed Martin and Sikorsky Aircraft had won a $1.24 billion contract to build the next fleet of presidential helicopters, and a week ago today, it was the U.S. Air Force awarding Lockheed and Sikorsky a $1.28 billion contract to build a new fleet of combat rescue helicopters. U.S. Senator Charles Schumer was at the Owego plant on Wednesday to celebrate the two contracts along with the site’s workforce of 2,600 employees. The 21 presidential helicopters to be built will be operational by 2023. The first two Marine One helicopters will be landing in Owego next year, where they will have their mission systems installed. The contract for the combat rescue helicopters is just the first step of a contract with a potential value of $7.9 billion.
