The Tioga County Health Department has received a total of $10,000 in grants to continue its Child Passenger Safety Program. The money comes from both the Community Foundation of South Central New York and the Floyd Hooker Foundation. The Child Passenger Safety Program provides several services for county residents, including the distribution of free car seats to families who are eligible, ensuring families are using the correct car seat for their child, as well as checking to see if car seats are properly installed. The program currently operates three permanent fitting stations; one at the health department, one at the Owego Police Department and one at the Waverly Police Department. The recent grant money will help add an additional fitting station at the Tioga County Sheriff’s Office in October, among other things.
