The town of Owego has approved plans to build a new dog park in part of Hickories Park. The town board approved the plans with a unanimous vote last night. The dog park will be the first one of its kind in Tioga County. Members of the Owego Dog Owners Group proposed the new park to the Owego Town Board and are now finalizing their plans. Group members say there is a need for a dog park since the only ones available are either in Broome County or Tompkins County. The money to build the park is being donated by the Weitsman family of which Rebecca–who loved dogs–died of cancer. Hickories Park is currently closed for flood repairs. The group hopes the new park can be ready by next spring.
