More information has been released on last Friday’s Route 17 accident in Owego. One person has died following that crash. 69-year-old Peter Lau, of Scarborough, Ontario was travelling on Route 17 eastbound on Friday afternoon, when he struck a New York DOT dump truck travelling slowly on the shoulder. A rear seat passenger, 69-year-old Shude Zeng, suffered head injuries and was taken to Wilson Hospital. Zeng died from his injuries on Sunday. The other people in the dump truck and the auto suffered minor injuries. Lau was given tickets for failing to move over for a hazard vehicle, speed, unsafe lane change, and crossing hazard markers. The investigation continues.
