The village of Owego is mourning the loss of lifelong native. Ed Franz passed away Friday afternoon at the age of 71. He was recently diagnosed with cancer. Franz worked for IBM for 26 years, and was well known for his involvement in the community as a little league coach, high school football referee, bus driver, and firefighter. He served the Owego Fire Department for over 50 years, and served as Fire Chief in the late 70’s, and again in 2011 and 2012. Calling hours will be held tomorrow afternoon from 3-to-7 PM at Estey, Munroe & Fahey Funeral Home on Park Street in Owego, where Franz also worked as a greeter for many years. The Funeral will be held Wednesday at St. Patrick’s Church on Main Street in Owego at 11 AM.
