Tioga County’s Legislative Chairperson has been named to a new committee to provide support to women involved in county government. Martha Sauerbrey was one of six women named to the new Women’s Leadership Council for the New York State Association of Counties, or NYSAC. The formation of the new council coincides with this year being the 100th anniversary of women’s suffrage in the state. The council will provide resources for women serving in elected positions at the county level or considering a run for a local office. NYSAC says only 23 percent of government roles at the state and local level are currently held by women.
