Several school districts held capital improvement project votes yesterday. In Tioga County, the Spencer-Van Etten School District project was approved. The two-phase proposal includes replacing roofs at the high school, middle school and bus garage, as well as replacing and repairing other aging infrastructure. There is no impact to taxpayers. In Broome County Chenango Valley voters approved a $12.4 million investment for some necessary repairs to enhance school security. Officials say most of the project will be funded by state aid, and taxpayers will not be impacted. And Whitney Point voters rejected a $15.4 million renovation to two schools. The plan was defeated by a count of 217 to 139. Residents would have seen a rise in taxes if it passed.
