More than 50 people attended a special meeting yesterday at the Tioga County Office Building to mobilize agencies from across the county to work together to combat the local drug problem. It was organized by the county government, headed by Legislative Chair Martha Sauerbrey.

Sauerbrey says many different community organizations and agencies have been working separately on this issue, but yesterday’s meeting was the first to try and mobilize those groups to work together as a coalition. The Tioga County Council on Alcoholism and Substance Abuse has been working with Earl Green from Rochester, who has helped create 12 different anti-drug coalitions around the state. Right now, they are collecting data from across the county and hope to expand to a website soon with an online survey. The next meeting of the coalition will be held at 1pm on July 19 at the Health and Human Services Building in Owego.
