Tioga County Legislative Chair Martha Sauerbrey has planned a series of public hearings in the coming weeks to get input on ways to save money. The county is required by the state’s current budget to convene a panel of public officials to find ways to save money and theoretically lower property taxes. A formal plan must be submitted to the state. Otherwise, Governor Cuomo has threatened the possible loss of state funding. All 15 municipal officials are members of what’s known as the Tioga County Shared Services Panel. Three public hearings are required by the state, two are already scheduled by the county, with a third to be determined. The first public hearing schedule is set for June 29 starting at 7pm at the Waverly Village Hall on Ithaca Street. Another is scheduled for July 11 in the county office building in Owego. The third will likely be held in the Spencer area.
