Residents in the Waverly Central School District will head to the polls tomorrow to vote on a second budget proposal. The new budget would be 2.75% higher than this year’s budget, however, would not include a tax levy increase. To avoid a tax increase, the Waverly School District is closing the Chemung Elementary School, which would also eliminate two custodial, one teacher’s aide, one librarian, and one secretary positions. In addition, the Waverly School District would not hire any additional staff, and cut its equipment purchases. The new budget still needs 60% voter approval, otherwise the district will be forced to go to its contingency budget. Voting will be held in the lobby of the Waverly High School from noon until 8pm tomorrow.
