The Waverly man accused of killing an Athens, Pennsylvania couple died in a Western Pennsylvania jail on Monday morning. 76-year-old John DeSisti was charged in the shotgun shooting deaths of his cousin, 60-year-old Carol Keefe, and her husband, 56-year-old David Keefe, at their Athens home back in November of 2006. Formally charged in December of 2010, it was last July that a judge ruled DeSisti as incompetent to stand trial due to his dementia. DeSisti’s attorney said that he had only months to live because he was seriously ill, and argued for his release from incarceration. DeSisti had to be wheeled in and out of the hearing on a stretcher, accompanied by medical attendants, at the Bradford County Courthouse. At this time, the cause of his death has not been released.
